S6	**NEW ITEM** Career Appointments for w/c 22nd October with Ailsa from SDS Located in Careers Room in Library Thursday 08:40 Charlie Sun S6 Ailsa Morgan 09:20 David Panagiotou S6 Ailsa Morgan 11:05 Jacob Layet S6 Ailsa Morgan 12:05 Cait Parsons S6 Ailsa Morgan 13:45 Harvey Douglas S6 Ailsa Morgan **NEW ITEM** 1st Minister’s Reading Challenge The school has signed up to participate in this year’s 1st Minister’s Reading Challenge.  This is the first year it has been rolled out to the secondary schools and we are very excited to be taking part.   Ms  Brown and Mrs Fairhurst are going to be running monthly reading challenges and the first one starts on November 1st.  At any point during November we are inviting pupils to email the school office with a photo of themselves reading to a younger child.  Include a bit of detail as to what you are reading and who you are reading to and send it to admin@jamesgillespies.edin.sch.uk The photos will go on display in the library and there will be certificates and prizes throughout the year.   Speak to Ms Brown in the library or Mrs Fairhurst in 1.25 for more details.  You will also find 1st Minister’s Reading Challenge book shelf recommendation cards in the library to slot into any really good reads you come across this year.

You can check your lesson time on the whiteboard outside the staff base downstairs in Music. ChEAPP Group Interested in the environment and sustainability? Come along to room 233 every Wednesday lunchtime where the ChEAPP group meet.  ChEAPP is Change for Environment Animals Planet and People. We want your ideas for campaigns and projects. GAELIC SINGING GROUP Enjoy singing? Want to try something completely new? I am hoping to form a Gaelic singing group. The school has in the past boasted a wonderful Gaelic choir and we would like to revive this tradition. Gaelic is not essential as all words will be taught. This is an excellent opportunity to learn a bit more about Scotland's language and culture through song and performance. The group will be informal and fun. If you are interested please attend a meeting on Thursday the 20th of September at 1pm in M2.24. Please do bring your lunch along.
