Primary School Shoes

One of our aims this year is to provide a pair of shoes for every child at Charles Memorial Primary School. To help us achieve this we are appealing for donations of black shoes such as gym plimsolls. They don’t need to be new – used shoes that have been outgrown and are still in good condition are just as welcome!
Please put any donations in the collection box outside the Dining Centre.
Thank you from The South Africa Committee!

There will be a rehearsal on TUESDAY 16TH DECEMBER DURING PERIOD 1 for all pupils playing in the finale item for the concert. This will take place in B1 – pupils must sign in at the office in Bruntsfield House first.

FINAL CONCERT REHEARSALS – 17TH & 18TH DEC.(ALL YEARS)

The final rehearsals for the concert which involve stage management and seating, take place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th December. Full attendance at these is essential.

Pupils have been given permission to attend these rehearsals on Wednesday 17th December at Marchmont St. Giles Church, Kilgraston Road, and on Thursday 18th December at the Usher Hall, Lothian Road.
Please note that the P7/S1 choir will rehearse on Monday 15th December at JGPS from 11.30 – 12.30pm. Pupils should meet in Bruntsfield playground at 11.15am.

We trust that all pupils make their own way to these rehearsals in a sensible manner and in groups. Staff will be notified of all rehearsals and the pupils involved.
Attendance at rehearsals before the concert is essential: all pupils should arrive at least 15 minutes before their rehearsal time below:

We would be grateful if senior wind band pupils could arrive on both days for 8.30am in order to help set up the band, as a prompt start is vital.
In addition, guitarists must bring their own guitar for both rehearsals, as no school guitars will be available. Guitarists must arrive for 1.15pm on Thursday 18th December in order to tune up before their rehearsal.

Word of the Week

Congratulations to 1K2!

It may be tricky to use such a specialised in an everyday context, but give it a go.

Word: D is for Dodecahedron

Definition: Dodecahedron – a twelve sided shape whereby each shape has five edges (pentagon). Overall it has 30 edges and is known as one of the platonic solids!

Context: How many faces does a dodecahedron have and what shape are its faces?

Eco-Group

A reminder from the eco group that they meet every Monday in the library at break.

The winner will receive -
The Alex Elrick Memorial Trophy, which they may keep for one year, and £1000 to help them continue to improve their singing. Please see Miss Millar this week for more details if you are interested.

Blatant self-promotion (with a little helpful fund-raising)

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to have a small publishing company called The Rialto accept my collection of poems, ‘Outswimming The Eruption’, for publication.  Poetry does not sell well in the commercial market, and the company have recently sold the final 90 copies to me at cost, because they think I am more likely to have some luck promoting the book myself than they are now.  The ‘cost’ price is £5; the cover price is £8.50.

If any parent, pupil or staff colleague is interested in buying a copy (perhaps for a Christmas present?), please come and see me with cash or cheque.  Feel free to pay the cost price, but if you pay the cover price, then I will donate my £3.50 ‘profit’ to the Parents’ Events Group Fund to be used to purchase resources for the pupils.  The only benefit to me will be a few more readers!

Allan Crosbie

ALL PUPILS
All pupils that have an instrumental lesson at 8.50am MUST report to the office at the bottom of Bruntsfield House to register they are present.  Absence calls will go home to parents if pupils do not register.
