Children 1st
Shoebox Appeal
A huge well done to all children, families and staff who
supported our shoebox appeal for children 1st. I am
delighted to announce that we collected eighty boxes filled with wonderful
gifts! Children 1st were thrilled with the number of boxes that
they received and were very touched by the kindness shown. A special
mention goes to 2K1 and Mr Adam who filled 10 boxes!
Thanks to all, Mrs Leesa Fallon
Primary School Shoes
One of our aims
this year is to provide a pair of shoes for every child at Charles Memorial
Primary School. To help us achieve this we are appealing for donations of
black shoes such as gym plimsolls. They don’t need to be new – used shoes
that have been outgrown and are still in good condition are just as welcome!
Please put any
donations in the collection box outside the Dining Centre.
Thank you from The
South Africa Committee!

Word of the
Week
Congratulations to 4R 1/2 for coming up with this week’s
word.
Word: cosmopolitan (adjective)
Definition: at ease with many cultures and countries.
Context: Esme was so cosmopolitan: some would say she didn't
have a nationality.
Use this word in interesting contexts and start thinking of
words beginning with D for next week.
Eco-Group
A reminder
from the eco group that they meet every Monday in the library at break.

Blatant
self-promotion (with a little helpful fund-raising)
A few years ago, I was lucky enough to have a small
publishing company called The Rialto accept my collection of poems,
‘Outswimming The Eruption’, for publication. Poetry does not sell well
in the commercial market, and the company have recently sold the final 90
copies to me at cost, because they think I am more likely to have some luck
promoting the book myself than they are now. The ‘cost’ price is £5;
the cover price is £8.50.
If any parent, pupil or staff colleague is interested in
buying a copy (perhaps for a Christmas present?), please come and see me with
cash or cheque. Feel free to pay the cost price, but if you pay the
cover price, then I will donate my £3.50 ‘profit’ to the Parents’ Events
Group Fund to be used to purchase resources for the pupils. The only
benefit to me will be a few more readers!
