see Mrs Sinclair, Classroom Assistant, Warrender or your History teacher. SENIOR REHEARSAL DAY for senior groups (and some S3 pupils involved in these) takes place NEXT WEDNESDAY 8TH OCTOBER.
These during-the-day rehearsals are absolutely invaluable
in ensuring that senior instrumental groups and senior choir is prepared for
the Christmas Concert at the Usher Hall on 18th December due to
the current split-site situation.
The following groups will rehearse:

2. Senior Clarsach Ensemble

French Alps
Trip
The Geography department are offering all students in S3
the opportunity to visit the sunny French Alps next May.
Provisional dates are from 7th to the 13th
and the cost should be £525.
If you are interested please ask any of the geography
teachers (Mr Stewart, Mrs Harvey-Jamieson & Mr O’Dea) for a letter with
further details.

Debating
and public speaking
Today’s debate is cancelled due to departmental business. We will meet again on Wednesday 15th
October, in W7 after school, to debate the motion:
This House believes
that Britain should not bomb Iraq and Syria.
Free Hibs Tickets
The Hibernian
Supporters Trust have kindly offered some free tickets to James Gillespie’s
for their upcoming home match against Dumbarton. The match is at Easter Road
on Saturday 11th October. If you would like a chance to win these
tickets in a raffle, please give your name and class to Mr Carstairs in the
PE Department. The draw will be made next Wednesday, 8 October.
Scottish
Secondary Schools Road Race Championships 2014
The SSAA Secondary Road Race Championships are being held
on Saturday 8th November at Helix Park in Falkirk. This is a
short distance road race for individuals with a team element. Anyone
from S1-S6 can compete and races range from 1 mile to 2 miles. If you
are interested in taking part in this Championship please see Miss Falconer
in PE by Friday 10th October. Entries after this date will
not be put forward for the competition.
Rotary
International Young Musician
of the year
Competition 2014/2015
Entrants may compete in one instrument/voice only and should perform a piece of their own choice lasting no more than five minutes either vocally or on the instrument of their choice. A piano will be available in the venue but entrants must provide their own accompanist. Amplification is not allowed. A copy of all music scores will be required for the Judging Panel.
The winners will receive a Winners Certificate and a cash
prize. Every competitor is given feedback from the Judging Panel and a
Certificate of Participation which can be included in development profiles or
records of achievement.

HERIOT–WATT UNIVERSITY
COMPOSER COMPETITION
Are you an aspiring composer?
Heriot-Watt are offering
a prize of £400 to the
best composition entered in
their competition.
There is no age limit.
The
piece is to be written for the group, ‘Inchcolm New Music Ensemble’, based at
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
Deadline for
submissions: 1st February 2015.

Hockey Club
Hockey is on Monday after school at Tynecastle High
School, bus leaves Lauderdale Street at 16:00 and returns at 17:45
approx. Come along even if you’ve
never played before! Equipment is provided. Any questions, see Miss Sinclair
in Modern Languages.
Reminder to return EE2 forms
Reminder to return your EE2 forms ASAP – deadline was 20th
August!!!!
You will not be allowed to go on any school
trip unless we have your forms back! Any problems see your Guidance teacher.
If you need another form please see Mrs Sinclair,
Classroom Assistants Office at Lauderdale St or School Office at Darroch
Shinty is on Monday, after school at Thirlestane until 5pm.
Everyone welcome regardless of experience. Helmets, sticks and shinguards are
provided.
Edinburgh Secondary Schools Cross Country League
Anyone interested in competing in the Cross Country
League this year please see Miss Falconer for an information letter.
The races will be held every Wednesday at 4.30pm till 5.15pm from 10th
Sept to Wed 8th Oct and then they will commence on Wed 25th
February 2015 to Wed 18th March 2015. The league is open to
all age groups for both girls and boys.

All pupils receiving instrumental lessons are required to
participate in one or more of the school ensembles. Pupils who learn an
instrument outside school are very welcome to join one or more of the
ensembles available.

Ensembles

ALL PUPILS
All pupils that have an
instrumental lesson at 8.50am MUST report to the office at the bottom of
Bruntsfield House to register they are present. Absence calls will go
home to parents if pupils do not register.
