Operation Christmas Child

Please remember to work together as a class to fill a shoe box to support Operation Christmas Child.  If you would also like to fill one yourself then please do.  Don’t forget to include £3.00, that’s only 15p each from a class of 20 pupils.  Here’s a reminder about what to include and what items are not suitable.
 
Suggested Items:  Hygiene items such as wrapped soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, facecloth, comb, hairbrush.  Stationary items such as pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, notepad, colouring book.  Small toys such as yo-yo, toy car, dolls, skipping rope, ball, small puzzles.  Other items such as hat, gloves, sunglasses, jewellery, wrapped sweets.
 
Do not include: war related items such as toy guns, chocolate, liquids, lotions, anything of a political, racial or religious nature, marbles, sharp objects, glass or fragile items or clothing other than hats, cap, gloves or scarf.
 
Let me know when your box is completed and I will come and collect it or hand it in to me in SFL. I need to have all completed boxes by the 13th November

IF YOU THINK THIS IS FOR YOU PLEASE COME TO THE PE DEPARTMENT AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION FORM.

French Alps Trip

The Geography department are offering all students in S3 the opportunity to visit the sunny French Alps next May.
Provisional dates are from 7th to the 13th and the cost should be £525.
If you are interested please ask any of the geography teachers (Mr Stewart, Mrs Harvey-Jamieson) for a letter with further details.

The trip has now been opened up to non-Modern Studies students or those who wish to study Modern Studies next year!

If you would like to go on the Modern Studies Trip to New York & Washington please hand in £200 deposit ASAP to either the Modern Studies teachers or Mrs Sinclair, Classroom Assistant, Warrender.

BIG GUITAR WEEKEND - 30th Oct - 2nd Nov 2014
 
Big Guitar Weekend is back, with a celebration of the remarkable talent to be found around the United Kingdom.
Featuring superstars Craig Ogden, Gary Ryan, Xuefei Yang and our own Professor Allan Neave, plus a showcase of the next generation of talented Conservatoire students, this year’s edition also includes the Thomas Wilson Competition, in a search for exciting new repertoire for the guitar.

Bands and Orchestras
 
Bands and Orchestras have commenced rehearsals for the Christmas Concert.
 
All pupils receiving instrumental lessons are required to participate in one or more of the school ensembles. Pupils who learn an instrument outside school are very welcome to join one or more of the ensembles available.
 
Monday: SENIOR WIND BAND in B3 AFTER SCHOOL
Tuesday: SENIOR ORCHESTRA IN B1 AFTER SCHOOL
Wednesday: SENIOR CHOIR IN B1 AFTER SCHOOL
Thursday: PIPE BAND IN B1 AFTER SCHOOL -check notices around school for specifics
 
Junior Ensembles

ALL PUPILS
All pupils that have an instrumental lesson at 8.50am MUST report to the office at the bottom of Bruntsfield House to register they are present.  Absence calls will go home to parents if pupils do not register.
